LaRon E. Nelson is a public health nurse and the Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing at Yale University. He is also the Director of the Justice, Community Capacity & Equity Core in the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS at the Yale School of Public Health. Dr. Nelson’s research focuses on developing and testing multi-level strategies to reduce social inequities in epidemics of sexually transmissible infections, including HIV. He has active research projects underway in the United States, Canada, Ghana, and Kenya. In the US he leads HPTN 096 a multi-site efficacy trial of an integrated strategy intervention to improve sexual health outcomes of Black MSM in the south. His work has been sponsored by the National Institutes of Allergy & Infectious Diseases, National Institute of Nursing Research, National Institute of Mental Health, the Canadian Institute of Health Research, and The Li Foundation. Dr. Nelson is an elected Fellow of both the New York Academy of Medicine and the American Academy of Nursing.
