Michael McNair began his public health career as a Supervising Prevention Intervention Specialist at the AIDS Council of Northeastern New York (now Alliance for Positive Health) in 2005, specializing in innovative sexual health interventions with men who have sex with men. He received the Public Health Educator of the Year Award in 2008 from In Our Own Voices.
He joined the AIDS Institute in 2008 gaining expertise in STI/HIV program services as a Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) for the Bureau of HIV/STI Field Services (BHSFS), then to be a Health Program Coordinator for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), then back to BHSFS in the Innovation and Rapid Response Unit; providing technical assistance and training on Partner Services, Internet Partner Services and Integrated Partner Services Systems. He’s also a fellow in the 2022 NASTAD (National Association of State and Territorial AIDS Directors) Minority Leadership Program.

In 2023, he joined the Office of Sexual Health and Epidemiology’s (OSHE) Sexual Health Education Services (SHES) unit serving as a Special Projects Coordinator helping create and promote sexual health education through multimedia initiatives and campaigns such as; Expedited Partner Treatment (EPT), Healthy Sex, Keep Babies Healthy/Prevent Congenital Syphilis and Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (Doxy-PEP).

Michael is also known as Mike-Bear; an award-winning recording artist, singer songwriter, actor, and model. He’s a co-founder of Bear Albany (bear community organization and promotions) and co-lead vocalist of the award-winning party ban, Funk Evolution.
