For over 30 years, the New York State Department of Health and New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision have worked together on this study to elucidate the burden of HIV among individuals facing incarceration. This double-blinded study highlights factors related to the receipt of a seropositive HIV antibody test result and shows descriptive trends of these factors throughout time. While more collaboration is needed to monitor these factors, public health entities can use the current information for interventions and initiatives targeting individuals who shoulder the highest burden of HIV.
