Speaker Bio
Gregory W. Lynch, MPH, is a New York State Public Health Corps Public Health Fellow II, working in the Suffolk County Department of Health Services with the Sexually Transmitted Disease unit. Alongside highly skilled Registered Nurses, they do Disease Intervention Specialist work. Disease Intervention Specialists aim to stop the spread of disease and prevent further harm. The position involves contacting Providers to ensure treatment regimens are adhered to, in addition to contact tracing. The goal of contract tracing is to identify and notify the intimate partners of the Original Patient that they’ve been exposed to a sexually transmitted disease. Patients are then led to testing and treatment. Gregory graduated from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health with a Master of Public Health in Sociomedical Sciences and an Advanced Certificate in Health and Human Rights. One of Greg’s areas of interest is in the well-being of the elderly LGBTQ population. Greg’s thesis “Disenfranchised Grief: A Need for Culturally Competent LGBTQ Bereavement Resources” addresses only one of many underacknowledged and under-anticipated needs of this demographic. Greg has been a professional, published songwriter for many years, writing in several genres: pop, contemporary country, dance, and soul. Additionally, over the last seven years, Greg has written the book, songs, and originated the story, to a full-length musical “The Moving Sky”. The piece follows the trajectory of the Gonzalez family who are forced to immigrate from Mexico after having been threatened with extortion by a lethal drug cartel. As timely as it sounds, Greg hopes it’s a timeless musical about personal resolve, family, compromise, and hope.
