The New York State Newborn Screening Program screens newborns for more than 50 different conditions at birth. Currently, molecular testing and DNA sequencing are used for 9 conditions after a positive first-tier biochemical screen. Variants are classified into 5 categories, and interpretation involves assessing different clinical and molecular evidence.
