Name
Concurrent Workshop: Building Bridges: “The Syndemic Approach and Stigma Reduction in Latino Faith-Based Organizations”
Time
9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Description
This workshop is based on the Latino Religious Program, a unique community intervention model that combines the Health Belief Model, the Social Ecological Model, and a leadership approach. This workshop explores the intersection of culture, stigma, and faith communities, using our model to address HIV prevention, treatment, and education.
It focuses on reducing stigma by promoting an understanding that HIV is a health condition, no different from other conditions, and that the focus should be the wellbeing of the individual, and not the way the person acquired the virus.
