Mike leads day to day operations for the USAA Educational Foundation as it serves its mission of empowering military families to achieve financial security.

He joined USAA in 2016 and brings over 30 years of experience in operations, risk management and leadership. Prior to this role he led Business Risk and Control functions for USAA’s P&C group and served as an Executive Operational Planning Manager, Operations Director and interim AVP Strategy and Operations in Corporate Communications.

Prior to joining USAA in 2016 Mike served over 22 years in the United States Navy. During that time, he served as a Surface Warfare Officer completing tours on seven different ship classes. On shore duty he served as an Operational Test Director, Acquisitions Advisor and he finished his military service as Commanding Officer of Naval Recruiting District San Antonio.

He has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Seton Home, a local non- profit, 2017-2023 and supports transitioning veterans/spouses by volunteering as a mentor with American Corporate Partners since 2018. He and his wife Sonya spend their free time working out, watching movies and supporting their children Mikayla, Mishaila and Michael Jr.

Mike has earned a Bachelor of Accounting from Norfolk State University, an Executive MBA from the Naval Postgraduate School, a Master's in Enterprise Risk Management from Columbia University and an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Duke University.
