The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) is hosting the second annual New York State Public Health Corps (NYSPHC) Fellowship Summit on December 12 – December 13, 2023 at The Albany Capital Center. The 2023 NYSPHC Fellowship Summit is intended to bring Fellows, along with their county Local Coordinators, Supervisors, Mentors, and Partners, from across the state to one forum where program successes will be shared and innovative public health programs, policies, and research efforts will be presented and discussed. The goal of this Summit is to support collaboration and knowledge sharing as well as provide networking opportunities for Fellows as they prepare for the next step in their public health careers.

The Summit will feature plenary sessions with local, state and national experts, oral, poster and workshop presentations from Fellows, in-person regional meetings, and several opportunities for Fellows to network. This event will highlight how the NYSPHC and its Fellows are addressing COVID-19 response and recovery and building skillsets to address future public health emergencies. Plenary presentations will center around health communication, the social determinants of health and community engagement. The hope is that Fellows will draw from and directly apply what they have learned at their placement settings.

The outcomes of the 2023 New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Summit include:

  • Provide participants with factual education focusing on the core competencies for public health professionals (analytical/assessment skills, policy development/program planning skills, communication skills, cultural competency skills, community dimensions of practice skills, public health sciences skills, financial planning and management skills, and leadership and systems thinking skills), with additional focus on COVID-19 response and recovery.
  • Hear about the current public health initiatives that Fellows are working on across New York State.
  • Develop and maintain vital collaborative efforts across major stakeholders to ensure that NYSPHC goals are achieved.
  • Provide an opportunity for regional fellow cohorts to meet face-to-face, to share best practices, and to experience peer-to-peer learning.
  • Distribute an evaluation survey to Summit participants to elicit feedback on additional areas of interest and potential improvements for subsequent years

The New York State Public Health Corps (NYSPHC) will build public health capacity to support COVID-19 vaccination operations and increase preparedness for future public health emergencies. The NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) will work with community partners to identify and train up to 1,000 Fellows to participate in the NYSPHC Fellowship Program.

The NYSPHC Fellowship Program will be mobilized across the New York State in response to both the current and future public health emergencies. Whatever your expertise, communities all over the state need your help and we encourage you to apply.
